I have tickets (a ticket) for Metric's all-ages show (the website having given me exactly the inverse of the actual facts), though Hawksley Workman was sold out before I got to him. Thanks to this local music weblog's excellent sidebar, which lists upcoming Vancouver concerts, I went with my sister last friday to a controller.controller show (opened by the excellently named You Say Party! We Say Die!), which was really good, and I'm very tempted to go to others. Here's what I find most interesting on the list right now:

  • 3/29 Beth Orton @ the Commodore
  • 4/2 Michael Franti (acoustic) @ the Commodore
  • 4/7 New Pornographers w/Corb Lund, the Weakerthans, the Salteens, and tba @ TBird Stadium
  • 4/20 Matthew Good (acoustic) @ the VECC (AA)
  • 4/24 Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ the Orpheum (AA)
  • 4/28 Franz Ferdinand w/Death Cab For Cutie @ Pacific Coliseum (AA)

Seeing as I want to have some money in Japan, I should probably limit myself to just one or two of those. The third is possibly most appealing; I'm not familiar with the other bands, but, the New Pornographers and the Weakerthans?

I've actually been to really few concerts in my life, by many standards; I wouldn't be surprised if it's fewer than ten (certainly that if I limit it to larger, well-known bands). If this keeps up, I won't be able to say that for long.

I've been in an interesting mode lately: self-conscious, but willing to say things anyway. I don't know how long it will last.

He always seems to have this problem, glump him. ^^

I don't think I've ever been to a concert that wasn't a choir concert. Unless you count Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts.

When are you going to be in Japan?

Hey, you!

In May; leaving the 7th, returning the 27th. (Well, my 'flight information' e-mail says 'Mary 27th', but I'm assuming that's a typo.) I'll apparently have access to a more detailed itinerary shortly.

What a delightful coincidence: I believe our itinerary schedules us to leave Japan around the 10th of May. Mike and I will be in Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara (and hopefully Miyajima, if I have my way). Where will you be?

Hmm! That's what the detailed itinerary will be useful in helping me tell you, certainly where dates are concerned. I know that Kyoto and Nara are both on there, plus Tenri, and some places I forget. It's a school thing, with studies and all, so I don't know if we (because you'd probably want to see Marilee, who is coming, too) will have so much freedom to meet up and hang out, but if we can, that would be very cool.

Okay, here's what the itinerary, which now I have in a rough and unfinalized form, says about that period:

Monday 8 arrive Kyoto

Tuesday 9 Kiyomizudera; Ginkakuji; Yasaka pagoda

Wednesday 10 Ohara, Sanzenin

I'll very likely be at the Matt Good one, although it's not the most appealing on the list, 'cause it's at the Cultch and I've still got a youth pass. Also, I'm nearly positive that they hold a few seats aside for youth pass holders at sold out shows, so I plan to go down 5 hours before Hawksley Workman, stand with my back against the doors and barricade my position against all comers. If there's a ticket to be got, I will get it. *wicked grin*

I bet the audience for Franz/Death cab will be excruciatingly pretty.

I remember when I had a YouthPass. I was laughing, carefree and arrogant, like the young are.

P.S. That Tom Waits album is really good.
