Tam Lin
You don't have to go with the hell-tithe
Those laws have loopholes,
You don't have to cast your soul into the night

Tam Lin,
You don't have to die without a fight
Riding with the fair folk
You're aware how they use their earthly knights

Tam Lin, you don't have to go with the hell-tithe
Tam Lin, you don't have to go with the hell-tithe

Go with the hell-tithe...

You saw me picking roses
We both of us made choices
And now we're come to another choice
I don't care what kind of queen she is

I know I want to save you
No matter what you change to
Held you once, I can hold you again
It's your baby

Tam Lin, you don't have to go with the hell-tithe,
Tam Lin, you don't have to go with the hell-tithe.

Go with the hell-tithe! (to fade)

Slightly more substantial comment, as I told you in chat: this is almost certainly the geekiest filk ever written. It's awesome.

I think you underestimate the SF filking community. ^^

I don't know what this is about, but I'm sure Roxanne feels betrayed by the recycling of her melody.

It is a very old story called Tam Lin, which you can read a short version of here.

And I heart filks. :D Read Megatokyo so I can deluge you with them!

It's been 25 years. If Roxanne hasn't stopped putting on the red light by now, I think it might be time to admit defeat.

...did you know it's in the top five when you google search "modern retelling Tam Lin"? That is what I was doing, looking for the title of a Diana Wynne Jones book which is just that. So you wrote this? it's not particularly contextualized, and I suppose I could stalk your journal a bit to find out, but I'd rather not awkwardly infringe on a stranger's internet privacy more than I already am. At any rate, if you did write this, I want you to know how wonderful I think it is. It's probably going to be one of those things that I'll remember at random in a few weeks and just start laughing. It's that great. thanks for inadvertently sharing it with me.

Wow, thank you! I did write it; I'm glad that you like it. You're perfectly welcome to read the rest of my journal if you like; if I didn't want people to be able to do that, then I could always friends-lock (which I never do).

That Diana Wynne Jones book is called Fire and Hemlock, and both it and Pamela Dean's Tam Lin are among my favourite novels.
