I wonder if I could get more comments using the busker's trick, and putting, as it were, a coin of my own into the hat? I'm having a lot of trouble punctuating that sentence.

The second-most notable thing that fell on November 19th this year was a bunch of civic elections in BC. I didn't vote (I might have voted early, but I didn't educate myself in time), but I do get to congratulate Marilee's mother, who is now a Vancouver City Council Member, and Windsor House parent Susan Skinner, who was elected to the North Van school board. Hooray!

Ever since I've been home, the city has been swallowed in fog. I can't see even the water from my house; each area discovers itself only as I'm upon it. It feels like a metaphor, nervously paused and incomplete.

Fog! Two days ago I was out at UBC's Koerner Library, which for the purposes of the film that day was named the Department of Psychology, and fog was little more than the world. And there were spotlights shining just to shine in fog, and London newspaper boxes, one with a Financial Times from July 13, 2005, and one from July 29, and a Guardian box, which was empty. As I determined the dates on the papers a curmudgeonly old man walked past and muttered that they'd "taken his Guardian."

On the bus home, which was unnumbered and had seats of upholstery I had never seen on a Vancouver bus, a wild-eyed man told me this had happened before, six, seven times, and a bunch of other stuff that I couldn't quite make out. He seemed distantly terrified, as if expecting the universe to strain, striate, grow luminous and then fall in on his head. I don't understand it at all.

That evening was AWESOME.

I mean he said, "This has happened before. Six, seven times."

The only other thing I clearly remember his saying was that his knee once swelled up like a (? red food?), like a mashed potato! It's strange to say something swelled up like a mashed potato. Though probably that's exactly what a mished-up knee would look like.

Not very notable, but pretty amusing: Christina Aguilera got married on the same day as me.

Yay for Marilee's mama! That is so cool!
