That circling questionairre
It seems a long time since I've done one of these, and I do so enjoy them. A livejournal exclusive; something in the history and context of my weblog proper makes it seem ill-suited.
- name: Andrew James Holloway
- piercings: There was some possibility that my physiotherapist was going to coax me into accupuncture, but it never happened, and now she says that, at least for the moment, I don't need to see her anymore.
- tattoos: I think there's a spot on one of my palms where I stabbed myself with a pencil as a child.
- height: One metric Alpicola. (Which seems to be about 5'8".)
- shoe size: Ten and a half... I think.
- hair color: My tendency these days is to give up and say 'brown', but I appreciate the people who stubbornly refer to me as blond.
- length: One supine Alpic... Oh, you mean my hair? Pretty long, but not quite so long as I dream it might be (I'd like to get it just above my waist, then stop.)
- siblings: Single, female, two and a half years my junior.
LAST ..
- movie you went to see: I'm actually not sure. I can remember the last movies I wanted to see in theatres (Sky Captain..., Hero), and didn't get around to... Oh! It was 'The Take', about occupied factories in Argentina, which I went to for David's birthday party even though his party didn't show up. It was good.
- movie you bought: Since my household acquires DVDs at a fearsome rate, I have no need to do this myself.
- song you listened to: I'm actually not sure; I haven't put anything on since getting home.
- song that was stuck in your head: "New Orleans Is Sinking", by the Tragically Hip.
- cd you listened to: Very likely the Metric one.
- person you've called: Taeghan, to ask her what time AD&D was.
- person that's called you: Possibly Marshall Veal.
- tv show you've watched: Either The Wedge (on MuchMusic), or Buffy the Vampire Slayer; I'm not sure.
DO ..
- you have a bf or gf: Neither.
- you have a crush on someone: No, but I have a bit of a crush on no one in particular, which is kind of irritating.
- you wish you could live somewhere else: Only for perhaps a brief period; Vancouver is wonderful.
- you think about suicide: Sure, though, as standard, not in a wistful way.
- you believe in online dating: No. It's a myth!
- others find you attractive: I tend to be skeptical about this, until proven otherwise.
- you want more piercings: Acupuncture would be an interesting thing to have experienced, but I'm pretty tense about needles in general. Now I'm going to phase over into what these questions actually intend! Watch: No.
- you drink: Not in such a way that I oughtn't be driving.
- you do drugs: No; I'm historically uncertain enough about my identity as it is without the added, queasy complication of a substance which alters the fundamental function of my mind.
- you smoke: No, because yuck.
- you like cleaning: Occasionally.
- you like roller coasters: Often.
- you write in cursive or print: Print; it tends to be quicker and more legible. (Still not quick enough, though, which is one reason I now own a laptop.)
- you carry a donor card: I like the idea of someone introducing themselves with their donor card. "Andy Holloway. Donor." It's sort of cyberpunk. But, no.
FOR OR AGAINST ..
- long distance relationships: Physically affectionate as I am (and given previous unfortunate experiences), I consider them Non-Ideal.
- using someone: For what?
- killing people: As a rule, no.
- teenage smoking: Who is for this? Teenage smokers, I guess.
- premarital sex: I favour sex within deep trust. 'Marriage' seems like something of an arbitrary metric to me, though.
- driving drunk: See 'killing people'.
- gay/lesbian relationship: In general, yes; I'm sure there are individual relationships I wouldn't consider a great idea (this, obviously, is also my response for if I'm 'for' relationships in general. I mean, geeze!). If I personally ended up in a sexual relationship with a man, I'd be... Pretty surprised.
- soap operas: Harmless, but a little redundant.
FAVORITE ..
- food: Barbeque pork fried rice; sauteed mushrooms.
- song: The song with the most emotional significance to me is probably still Moxy Früvous' 'Fly'.
- thing to do: Create, or interact, or experience a story, or hug, or sing, or breathe in on certain Autumn days.
- thing to talk about: The workings of my own brain is up there.
- sports: I like to fence, and to swim, but the latter is hardly a sport (it's a transcendence). The pleasure of team sports is very much dependent upon who else is playing. I still have a lot of respect for the mysticism of baseball.
- drinks: I miss A&W cream soda. But my favourite drink is probably water.
- clothes: I like a lot of the clothes Rachel wears. (My own manner of dress is strange, but ultimately utilitarian, so I don't think about my clothes very much. I do like the green of this t-shirt I'm wearing right now, and I like my Windsor House shirts, for all that they're falling apart.)
- movies: I do have an enduring admiration and fondness for the original Planet of the Apes.
- band/singer: Moxy Früvous, or the Beatles. Paul Simon is up there. As lyricists, nobody tops Leonard Cohen or Ani DiFranco.
- holiday: You'd think that since I have a favourite day of the week (Thursday) I'd have one of these, but I don't. I guess I like Valentine's, for the opportunity to compliment people, and because I met a very neat girl on the bus once.
- new annoying saying: This is exactly the sort of question designed to make my mind go blank. I could use it as a defense against telepathic scans.
- disney movie: Probably the movie I'd grin most to happen upon right about now would be The Emperor's New Groove ("Why does she even have that lever?"), followed by Aladdin.
- scent: Many people (but especially some), cedar, chinese food, certain wind, new books, old books, cherry blossoms, campfire smoke.
- word: At the moment, fish, chocolate, or explode.
- nickname: That's been applied to me? 'A-kun', I suppose, for the affection imbued in it by the only who uses it.
- guy name: Ziegfried Cash.
- girl name: I would like to name a daughter Sophia; outside that context, I'm pretty partial to Katherine, and (still) Nicole. Also? Holly Unfortunate.
- eye color: I find very grey eyes fascinating.
- flower: Flowers tend to have too subliminal an effect on me for me to answer this reliably.
- piercing: While some piercings are certainly better at looking good than others, I don't think any is, hm, reliably an improvement on the unpierced body part.
- actor: I think I noticed a good answer for this recently, but it has fled me now. Seeing Kevin Spacey in a movie usually inclines me to look upon it favourably.
number ..
- of people I would classify as true, could trust with my life type friends?: Hi, guys! I'm not going to count you; it feels silly, and vaguely profane.
- of people I consider my enemies?: There have been a smattering, over the years; none severe enough that I actually expect them to be plotting against me at this moment.
- of times my name has appeared in the newspaper?: I still have no idea. No occasions come to mind, though it's probably happened at least once (depending how broad your definition of 'newspaper' is).
- of scars on my body?: Two, that look pretty permanent. Probably a few more.
- of things in my past that I regret?: This still looks like a depressing thing to count.
DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ...
- handsome/pretty: Yes; I like the way I look. I don't assume that anyone else does, though.
- funny: More than I probably warrant.
- hot: Not this time of year.
- friendly: In some situations, though I'm very capable of being pretty remote.
- amusing: I take the difference between this and 'funny' to be a matter of my intention. Probably.
- loveable: *bats his eyelashes*
- pessimistic/optimistic: I've noticed that I have strong, deep-rooted expectations both that my life will continue to get better, and that things can never again achieve the glory that once they had. This leaves me with no idea how to answer this question.
- caring: I... Yes.
- sweet: I think this is probably the appellation in this list that is least amenable to being self-applied. I try.
- dorky: Very likely.
- The story behind your user name: 'Garran' was a name I conceived when I was a kid as a generic fantasy name, perfect for the generic fantasy boy-with-a-sword I was supposed to name at the beginning of various CRPGs. I continued to like it, and it has gradually consumed each of my other handles.
- Are you straight?: Yep.
- Where do you live?: North Vancouver, (BC, Canada,) in a house I'm very fond of.
- 4 words that sum you up: "Acronyms Never Describe You".
DESCRIBE YOUR -
- Wallet: Brown and leathery; originally, I think, a gift from my grandparents. Very fat, because for a couple of years I stuffed into it every receipt I had no idea what to do with.
- Toothbrush: Missing. >_> I'd better find it, soon.
- Pillow cover: Pale, nondescript.
- Blanket: Duvet.
- Coffee cup: I never drink... Cups.
- Sunglasses: Nonexistant.
- Shoes: Weathered, whitish, 'New Balance', close-to-identical to the pair they replaced (and the two pairs before that).
- Favorite top: I wrote a poem called 'The Top' once*. I mention that because I sort of already answered this question.
- CD in stereo right now: The aforementioned Metric album ("Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?"), which is why I suspect I listened to it last. In the downstairs sound system, which I use considerably less, I have loaded my copy of "Behind The Music", by Soundtrack Of Our Lives.
- What you are wearing now: A rock-green t-shirt, my sweater, my pair of sweatpants without holes in them, underwear. and... Yes, socks.
- hair: I'm fond of it.
WHO or WHAT (was/is/are) -
- In my mouth: As I reached this question, I was chewing thoughtfully on a couple of my fingers.
- In my head: I feel a little goofy that Rachel anticipated so many of the ways I intended to answer this survey.
- Wishing: This is something I have lately been unable to articulate.
- After this: Perhaps I shall read, or finish levelling up Kemyin, my AD&D* character. (*I know this isn't what it is, since we are, in fact, playing Third Edition. I'm merely being stubborn.)
- Talking to: I totally can't tell whether I'm supposed to choose from the tenses provided in this section's heading, or try to determine which was intended. At the moment, I am in conversation with none but you, gentle reader.
- Eating: After today's AD&D game, a few of us walked to a White Spot and bought plates of better-than-mediocre fries. Aside from a couple of small chocolates, that was the last thing I ate.
- Fetishes: I once answered this that I had a 'glump fetish'. I guess that's not so applicable as it used to be.
- If you could get away with it and murder anyone, who and for what reason?: I like to think I'd refuse.
- Person you wish you could see right now: Rachel, as often. Also Rachan, whom I haven't been talking to enough, and I miss it, and several other people, many of whom I am looking forward to seeing at the end of this month (much though I'm also trepidatious about that trip).
- Is next to you: Most directly: a plastic sword, which I have fidgetily inserted through the handles of several desk drawers.
- Something you're looking forward to in this upcoming month: Registering for classes, tomorrow. Going into Windsor House at least once before the Christmas Break begins (I vow this to myself). The gathering of relatives for Christmas, to a surprising extent. The aforementioned month-end.
- Something that you are deathly afraid of?: Losing my mind.
- Do you like candles: Yes; they smell nice.
- Do you like hot wax: Well, since I like candles... (Though I guess this could be a ketchup-not-tomatoes thing. Marilee has some sort of soy wax which doesn't stick to tables. This last is not really related to the question.)
- Do you like incense: Sure, though sometimes it can be a little cloying.
- Do you like the taste of blood: Yes (though not enough).
- Do you believe in love: No; it's an elaborate ruse!
- Do you believe in soul mates: I believe, as it would be difficult for me not to, in rapport; that is, that there are some people one naturally falls into an easy trust, affection and dialogue with. As to whether "we are old souls, you and I", I remain agnostic.
- Do you believe in love at first sight: Not to a particularly greater degree than is afforded to everyone one sees.
- Do you believe in forgiveness: I'll take this one to be asking whether I believe that it should be applied. Generally, yes.
- Do you believe in God: No. But sometimes I have a quiet, sneaking suspicion.
- What do you want done with your body when you die: I think it would be kind of neat to be fed to something (perhaps preserving and burying my skull, so that people have something to visit?), but I don't really have much preference.
- Who is your worst enemy?: Cheese.
- If you could have any animal for a pet: I'd still like a dog again.
- What is the latest you've ever stayed up: This concept no longer has any meaning for me.
- Ever been to Belgium?: No; I've been pretty bad about leaving this continent, since I was old enough to talk in coherent sentences.
- Can you eat with chopsticks: Yes, though with rice, I still prefer not to.
- What's your favorite coin?: I sometimes like to coin ridiculous neologisms.
- What are 5 cities you wouldn't mind relocating to?: But, Vancouver! I probably wouldn't mind living for a time in Kyoto, or Corvallis, or... I probably need to visit more cities.
- What are some of your favorite pig out foods?: I suppose this means foods such that, when I'm really hungry, I can set about eating it with perfect contentment, and no feeling that I must soon stop; this is a sensation I'm familiar with, but no dishes stand out as providing it. Generally Chinese food, I daresay.
- whats something that you wish people would understand?: A) That I talk this way because this is how I think, and B) that their not talking this way makes them no less intelligent (and shouldn't prevent us from having a conversation). Happily, there aren't many people this applies to.
- What's something you wish you could understand better?: What on earth I'm doing.
- Anyone/thing you miss that you haven't seen in a long time?: Rachel, physically, as before mentioned. Windsor House. A way of feeling that I used to associate with The Game.
Excellent! Here it ends.
