I fix computers for a living, at the very least I can tell you what's wrong with it, harddrives and power supplies are the first things to go, and are relativly cheap to replace.
Which I think is mostly that his music collection is gone, or is only in bits and pieces scattered to the far corners of the Internet. It's possible that the hard drive can be repaired, though.
