As twice instructed
Interesting how this seems to make some people more cheerful to contemplate, and some people less. I fell mostly into the former camp.
Not because you have to, but because you WANT to! Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal... and then tag 5 friends and ask them to post it to theirs.
(The strangest and most interesting piece of those instructions is the second sentence, which seems to forbid the mention of phone conversation, or physical affection, or my AD&D game, or silly and joyful late-night contact with Rachel, or anything else that requires a willing participant besides myself. I haven't seen anyone else try to comply with this, but I think that I will.)
* Reading, and specifically reading novels - I can enjoy reading fiction on my computer, but it's never something that can be settled into quite so thoroughly. Among, and possibly first among, the oldest and deepest joys on this list.
* Music: new to me and wonderful (which is exciting, but exciting in a relaxed way), or comfortable and well-traveled. The MOST RELAXING MUSIC AWARD - relaxing specifically, though that's not often the guiding factor in my decision to listen to something, even if these musics are what I choose - probably goes to Enya and Iron and Wine, with an honourable mention for certain Moxy Fruvous (less by its nature than by how completely familiar it is).
* By a similar token, singing, either along, or just to myself. Always joyful, but more or less so in proportion to how good I think I sound at the moment.
* Jezzball. This is a small thing, but I know of no more satisfying way to discharge the need to fidget with my computer.
* Thinking about flying.
* Thinking (slash daydreaming) about my music, and the ways and shapes in which I'd like to refine it and bring it properly into being.
* More generally, thinking about things I'd like to do artistically, especially as this can often segue into my doing them.
* General contemplation, provided I've an interesting enough topic to keep me occupied.
* Watching something, usually from my household's daunting stockpile of DVDs.
* A video game - usually some form of RPG.
* Taking the bus some route I've never been, on a pretty day, and just watching where I go. Going for walks in similar weather. Breathing deep of the outside air.
* My city, in general.
* Character generation, especially, but not limited to, systems of same with a random element. I really mean to apply this term loosely to all manner of creativity as focussed by a roleplaying system; characters, yes, but also designing a priesthood, or rolling up a solar system.
* Lately, making mix CDs. It's amazing what a cheerful way this is to spend hours on hours, tinkering obscurely with order and content.
* Taking long showers in the morning.
I don't really care enough about the 'tagging' aspect of this particular game to bother, not to mention that my supply of candidates has been fairly comprehensively tapped. On the off-chance that someone reading this has been yearning to get tagged and hasn't yet, well, I know it's not the same, but you certainly have my permission to take the thing.
