Guessing game
Okay, here's that thing that's going around, and how it works:
I) I'll post ten things I'm a fan of.
II) You will attempt to guess my favourite character from each. (I have tried to limit myself to cases where I have a clear favourite. In many of them, though, it's only by a bare margin, and there are other characters whose mention will constitute at least a partial victory.)
III) Upon your success, I'll put that line in bold, append the correct answer, and write a sentence or so about my affection for that character. (The sentences may wait to be supplied in bunches.)
1. Babylon 5 (G'Kar - The Lurker's Guide entry for the pilot remarks that G'kar is "consistently transparent in his emotional states"; and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that for all the changes he goes through, this remains constant. Through all his passions and wisdom, you can still see exactly what he's feeling. That's near the heart of it.)
2. Angel (Wesley - This has been the most difficult to quantify, which is why I've put it off for a week. Is it the scope of his personal evolution, how impressive and competent this incompetent becomes, and how gloriously recognizable he remains througout? His decency and ruthlessness? His little self-deprecations? His erudition? His strange accent and periodic stubble? All of these things, yes.)
I do not have a favourite Buffy character, but if you want to guess as to which five or six or seven I can't choose between, feel free. That can be 2a.
3. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (villains) (Fisheye - It is well-documented that I have no explanation for this. I was hooked from the very moment I first thought, "Wait, that's a guy?", and though he would go on to earn this affection, it remains, at its core, elusive and irrational.)
4. Harry Potter (Albus Dumbledore - Because he has so much fun.)
5. Joan of Arcadia (God - "I do not 'pop'. I abide.")
6. X-Men (Beast - I like how gentle he is; a bulky, superagile, blue-haired ape-man, characterized most by a deep thoughtfulness and a wry, twinkling willingness to be silly.)
7. Waitility mythos [as with Tanetris, characters other than my own]
8. LotR (novels) (Gollum - The odd, twisted flashes of nobility; the unlikely redemption. Plus, I've always been a sucker for distinctive speaking styles.)
9. Final Fantasy 8 (Laguna - Because he's clumsy and honest and adorable and good, and I (also clumsy and often surface-incompetent) found that strangely inspiring. And he's adorable. Did I mention that?)
10. Slayers (Lina Inverse - There is nobody else like Lina. She's greedy; she's gluttonous; she's acerbic; she's cocksure and arrogant (though underconfident in her looks); she's cheerfully careless with the application of dreadfully destructive magics; she's one of the most entertaining and sympathetic characters in all of anime.)
I have also unlocked the
Extreme Round!
11. Bruno (Stanley - As I recall, he only pretends to be a terrible cook. For that, and how well he gets along with Bruno, and his cantankerous compassion, and his perseverence, and his gigantic chin.)
12. Akira (manga)
To avoid pulling a Rachel-and-Pam, (my) Rachel and I will avoid guessing the ones we're sure of until others have had a chance. :-p

2. as i said before, fred
4. Ron
6. Prof. X
8. Gollum

2. Fred isn't the answer I was looking for, but she's definitely one of my secondary favourites. So battered and geeky and hopeful and ruthless and downright weird.
4, 6. Nope! (Although I like both of them.)
8. Yes. The odd, twisted flashes of nobility; the unlikely redemption. The first unqualified success!

I will guess Joan, since no one else has yet and I'm not sure: God?

The strange symmetry of our successful guesses amuses me.

4: What about Dumbledor? (That spelling looks wrong.)
1: Vir?
(spirit of etc.)
1. Vir is wonderful enough that it can only be read as a testament to the show that he isn't my favourite.
4. You have it!
-Garran
Re: (spirit of etc.)
4: Hurray! He is quite the guy.
1: Alright then, what about Marcus?
Re: (spirit of etc.)
Uh, and you're right.
1: Points for being British, and awesome. No points for not being the individual I'm thinking of.
-Garran
Re: (spirit of etc.)
"Thank you!"
Re: (spirit of etc.)
How about..
1. Lennier?
or
1. G'Kar?
1. Londo?

Re: (spirit of etc.)
He's such a good actor! Especially in the later seasons ^_^
Also, belated yay for Stanley. 'Though to be honest, I don't remember that much about him. I keep thinking about reading that comic again.
